I am Hajira Buser and my granddaddy was a solider. He was in the airforce when it was still part of the army. He was declared killed in action (KIA) when his plane went down behind enemy lines. The military buried him without a body; but he had not died...
A few months later he did what was needed doing & was in a position to make contact. The military didn’t tell my Grandma they heard from him because they were worried they were wrong. Grandpa came home and she found out he was alive when he knocked on the door. For the rest of her life grandma did not like that time talked about.
Grandma and Grandpa had my mom and named her Rosie like Rosie the Riveter.
I had the honor of a legacy project, restoring the aircraft that saved his life, including riveting.
So, from Hajira Buser to my nickname in the hangar
"daughter of Rosie"
The pro-bono stewardship and technical labor was an honor to work with highly-skilled men and preserve the knowledge that came at great sacrifices from the greatest generation.
A labor of love!
